Different
types of Election
In the
UK there are various bodies that are elected. These include the Members
of the European
Parliament, The
House of Commons, The
Scottish Parliament, The
Welsh Assembly, The
Northern Ireland Assembly, County Councils, District Councils, Unitary
Authorities (including London Boroughs), Mayoralties, The
Greater London Assembly and Parish Councils.
One odd
aspect that you may have to deal with is that these bodies are elected
by different means. Some use the traditional UK system of first-past-the-post
where the candidate(s) with the most votes on a straight count wins.
Others use various systems of proportional representation.
In essence
however, for the purposes of this site, this does not matter as whichever
system is employed all the parties will still be busy trying to maximise
their vote.
